Amery Docket Task Map
Four tasks come up again and again. The joint court's posted information separates them cleanly. Need a court date? Work from the citation, later notices, and the municipal clerk. Paying a forfeiture? Use the citation-number route. Fighting the ticket means following the municipal plea, pretrial, and trial steps. Requesting records? Name the exact notice, judgment, receipt, or docket history you want. Blending these into one generic search can bury the answer you came for.
| Amery task | First source | Result to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Confirm an appearance | Citation and Amery clerk | Current date and time |
| Pay a forfeiture | Official court-payment route | Balance and receipt |
| Contest a citation | Official plea instructions | Accepted plea and next setting |
| Request a local record | Municipal clerk | Named docket item or document |
| Find a circuit appeal | Polk Clerk and WCCA | New circuit case number |
Drivers cited in Clear Lake, Clayton, or Black Brook should name their issuing municipality. Do that at every step. The Amery Area label marks the shared court. But the ticket still cites a local ordinance. Someone contesting a citation should also tell an initial appearance apart from a trial. Regular sessions run on the published Wednesday schedule. A later notice may set a different event, though. Trial continuance requests here must be written and filed before the listed date. Until the court grants a change, that appearance stays on your calendar.
Searching the Amery Court Docket
For a local citation, the Amery Area Municipal Court page is the first official stop. The court offers no public Amery search by name, case number, or date range. What the page does give you is the joint court's clerk, schedule, payment instructions, and service area. So the citation number, issuing municipality, violation date, and appearance date are your working search keys. A city or village ordinance citation stays on the municipal route unless the notice or clerk says otherwise. State civil or criminal filings belong in Wisconsin Circuit Court Access, with Polk County selected.
- Read the court name and issuing municipality.
- Keep the citation number and appearance date together.
- Check the Amery court page for live instructions.
- Call the clerk when status is unclear.
- Use WCCA only after circuit filing.
A failed statewide search does not cancel a local citation.
Amery's Four-Municipality Court
Amery Area Municipal Court serves four municipalities: Amery, Clear Lake, Clayton, and Black Brook. Its office and sessions sit at Amery City Hall. That address is 104 Maple Street West, Suite A. The court's phone number is 715-268-6567. That joint structure answers most questions people raise about the Amery docket. A ticket may name Clear Lake, Clayton, or Black Brook. The notice may still list Amery as the court site. Keep both names. The municipal court identity tells you where settings and payment happen; the issuing municipality tells you whose ordinance is at issue.
Routing point: “Amery Area” is a shared court label, not a city-only caseload.
Amery Municipal Court Basics
This court handles local ordinance forfeitures. A forfeiture is a civil money penalty, not a criminal case. Traffic and ordinance matters for all four member municipalities are listed on the official page. State criminal charges do not land here. Ordinary civil suits, family cases, small claims, and probate belong to Wisconsin circuit court. For scheduling, fines, municipal records, or trial status, the court clerk is the contact. For a filed Polk circuit document, reach the Polk Clerk of Circuit Court. Staff names change, so confirm them on the live Amery page.
Amery Citation Numbers Matter
Amery's online payment path runs on a citation number. It is a payment tool, not a docket search by name. A result may lead you to the right balance, but it won't show the full history of settings, pleas, filings, or municipal orders.
| Citation number | The local payment and clerk reference. |
|---|---|
| Municipality | Amery, Clear Lake, Clayton, or Black Brook. |
| Violation date | Helps distinguish similar records. |
| Appearance date | The date on the notice, subject to confirmation. |
| Case number | Use 2026TR000123 only as a circuit-format example. |
Ask the clerk for the municipal entry or order needed.
Court Dates and Settings in Amery
Sessions fall on the second and fourth Wednesdays. Adult initial appearances start at 9:00 a.m., with juvenile initial appearances at 9:30 a.m. Before you travel, confirm the date on the current official page and your notice.
| Date | The session or trial date. |
|---|---|
| Time | The listed call time. |
| Location | Amery City Hall, Suite A, unless redirected. |
| Setting | Initial appearance, pretrial, trial, or another event. |
| Status | Scheduled, continued, completed, or pending. |
A general session schedule does not prove one citation remains set.
Amery's Written Continuance Rule
The official Amery FAQ sets the continuance rule. A request should be in writing and state the reason. It must be copied to the city or village attorney. It should also arrive at least ten days before trial unless an extraordinary circumstance exists. The court alone decides whether to grant it. Filing the request does not move the docket. Treat the existing date as active until the court confirms a new one. This local rule does not govern Polk Circuit Court. It does not govern Osceola Municipal Court either. Note: A continued setting is a moved date, not a dismissal or final result.
Traffic Tickets in Amery
Read an Amery traffic citation before searching anything. Pull out the municipality, court, citation number, violation, and appearance date. The Amery payment route needs the citation number. Anyone contesting the ticket should follow the plea and appearance instructions. Do not treat payment and contest as one task. Paying can resolve the money obligation under the posted procedure. Contesting can create pretrial and trial settings. The Polk County traffic ticket record explanation separates municipal citations from circuit traffic cases.
Amery Appeals Change Records
A municipal result can be appealed to Polk County Circuit Court. The city citation and the later circuit case are related records, but they are not the same one. Keep the municipal citation number, any judgment or notice, and any circuit case number together in one file.
- Municipal record
- The citation, settings, pleas, payment status, and result.
- Circuit appeal
- A later Polk Circuit Court proceeding.
- WCCA record
- Public circuit information, not Amery document images.
The office can walk you through filing steps, but it cannot choose a plea or an appeal for you.
Where Amery Cases Go
Amery matters split between two courts. Ordinance tickets begin in Amery Area Municipal Court. Anything charged under state law, criminal or civil, starts in Polk County Circuit Court even when the event occurred in Amery. Appeals climb a ladder, since a municipal appeal opens a circuit docket and a circuit appeal moves to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals.
Docket flow: Amery Area Municipal Court › Polk County Circuit Court › Wisconsin Court of Appeals
Start with WCCA for a circuit matter. It lists events and scheduled activities only, so ask the Polk Clerk for the filed documents that make up the complete case file.
Amery Joint-Court Caseload
The 2024 municipal statistics report counts 726 cases for the Amery Area court in 2022, then 491 in 2023 and 527 in 2024. The report itself cautions that some rows omit quarters. Treat these as administration figures. They are not counts of Amery residents, convictions, or unique people.
Amery had 2,962 residents in the 2020 Census ranking. That figure answers a different question than joint-court caseload does.
Amery Court Record Access Rules
Ask the Amery clerk for a local municipal record. Name the citation, municipality, party, date, and exact item. Wisconsin's public-records policy favors access, though redaction rules, juvenile protections, and court orders can limit release.
Key rules:
Wisconsin Statutes section 19.31 states the public-records policy.
Wisconsin Statutes section 19.35 sets the inspection and copying framework.
The Polk Clerk supplies filed circuit complaints, orders, and transcripts. WCCA offers case information only, not document images.
Amery's Official Court Sources
The municipal page is the operational source for the joint court's schedule, payments, and staff. The statewide Wisconsin municipal court directory is a cross-check. It lists municipal courts across Wisconsin and shows why you should identify the court layer before running a docket search.

Trust the Amery page for live joint-court details.
Reading an Amery Docket Entry
A good Amery record request names one item. Be specific. You might need the citation, a notice of a later setting, the municipal judgment, or a receipt. Each answers a different question. A clear name saves the clerk from guessing. The clerk should not have to puzzle out whether you want a date, a balance, a plea, or a final result. Include the citation number, issuing municipality, cited name, and approximate date. Leave out unrelated personal details.
Think of a docket entry as a chronological note. It may show a notice issued or an appearance held. It may show a trial set or a judgment entered. The entry is not the same as the filed paper behind that event. If exact wording matters, order the paper. An event label will not carry the order's language. A payment screen may show only a balance and citation number.
- Initial appearance
- The first listed municipal court session for a citation.
- Pretrial
- A setting used to address a contested matter before trial.
- Continuance
- A court-approved move from one date to another.
- Judgment
- The court's recorded result and any ordered forfeiture.
A date dispute calls for a side-by-side check. Line the citation up against every later notice. The newest valid court notice beats an old calendar printout, and the clerk can confirm whether a request moved the schedule.
Amery Local and Circuit Routes
Keep the municipal and circuit systems side by side. Never blend them. The Amery office answers questions about a joint-court citation, its sessions, a municipal payment, or a municipal record. The Polk Clerk holds documents for cases filed in Polk County Circuit Court. WCCA shows public circuit case information. The Amery page remains the operational source for the joint court.
| Question | First source | Useful identifier |
|---|---|---|
| Local citation date | Amery court clerk | Citation number |
| Municipal payment | Amery payment route | Citation number |
| Circuit case event | WCCA | Polk case number |
| Filed circuit document | Polk Clerk | Case number and document title |
That split explains an empty-looking search too. The case may still be local, may not yet have a circuit number, or may be closed off by access limits. Check the court named on the newest notice first.
Amery Notice Checks
Compare the Amery citation with every later notice before acting. Check every detail. The cited municipality, citation number, setting date, court location, payment address, and any new case number all matter. A written notice can change a date or room. A general web schedule may not reflect one case. If two sources conflict, call the Amery clerk. Record the office contacted, the date, and the instruction given. Keep mailed requests and payment receipts with the citation, since that trail makes later docket questions easier to resolve.
